Using his innovative ideas and designs, Mr. Masui has now produced several different variations of his beautiful SHIKI Damascus knifes. This time, he has just finished working on a simplified version, which has a blade that is made from a solid piece of “VG-10” stainless steel. VG-10 is produced by Takefu Special Steel Co., Ltd. and is one of the most popular and highly regarded Japanese stainless cutlery steels due to its reliability, strong corrosion-resistance, very good edge sharpness and edge retention.
Mr. Masui's experience in knife making and finishing techniques are assertively applied to create the custom handles and the perfectly mirror polished blades of these knives. Most craftsmen struggle to use new and different for their handles, because each material requires slightly different making processes and hand finishing techniques, but Mr. Masui’s loves to take on the challenges of working with new materials because it enables him to produce knives that excite him and his customers. We admire his enthusiasm and resolute spirit.
Mr. Masui has produced these knives with a wide variety of unique handmade custom handle materials, which include: Walnut Wood, African Red Sandalwood, Pakkawood, Linen Micarta®, Corian®, Water Buffalo Horn, Impala Horn, Camel Bone and Jigged Bone.
