It certainly was worth it for the duration of shipping, which I could track every step of the way and which took no time at all.
Again, this knife is so light and thin, giving it an advantage over other knives in its class. The only problem I have with it is that on the first use the blade seemed to react with potatoes and beetroot giving the tip of the blade a patina of discolouration. At first I thought it was vegetable juices but no, the blade surface reacted in some way, it almost looks as if the blade was held over flame but this was not the case. That being said, it still cuts very fine despite the discolouration.
Smooth is how I would describe the cutting action of this knife. It's feather lite in hand and does not require the same pressure applied to thicker, heavier knives. When it comes close to the chopping board I practically stop downward pressure and allow the knife to rest on the surface lightly. I can see this is going to be a wonderful addition to the kitchen already.
It’s a very capable and versatile knife. I love the shape and balance. I did not realise it was a single bevel design , and generally find double bevelled knives better at cutting harder things like cheeses or turnips. Nonetheless I enjoy working with it.
GREAT KNIFE. Amazing for bread and anything else.superbe service
I bet you've never seen a sharper knife in your life. It's absolutely perfect.
The knives are beautifully made, extremely sharp, and feel very high quality. Each knife serves a different purpose, making the set perfect for everyday cooking, from small detailed work to larger cutting tasks.
It’s a practical but also very special gift, with great craftsmanship and durability, and I hope it will be a reliable kitchen companion for many years.
Beautiful knife. The fit and finish exceeds the price paid.
Great price Great sharp knife. Good balance. Superb service. Thanks @
Fabulous service and great knife. Bought it for the birth of my grandson to match his father's knife. Gifted with a gold coin for good luck. It will be his family heirloom for when he grows up.
Een prachtig stukje vakmanschap. Goed voor zeer vele jaren gebruik.
I purchased 3 wooden Saya for my son who is a chef. He really loved them and I plan to purchase a few more.
A work of art that is as wonderful to use as view.Very sharp and a beautiful Sugarite handle.
The saya fits very snugly on my gyuto. Although next time I would probably buy a lacquered version because if there is any oil on your fingers, the unlacquered saya will quickly absorb the oil
I got this knife around 7 months ago. I have since shopped at the store 2 times, to get a gift, and to get another petty. This knife has been great. It was my first Japanese knife, and the level of craftsmanship is great. The knife came out of the box perfect, and looked beautiful. The edge from factory was very sharp, and the steel is soft enough to sharpen quickly, but tough enough to hold a good edge for a lot of cutting. I am enjoying the stainless properties as well. The handle is a beautiful magnolia wood that has a pearlescent zebra stipe effect when oiled up- I put a couple layers of flax seed oil on when I received it, and add another layer every now and then. The blade is slicey, but not super thin- so it does have mild resistance when there is a tall cut. The handle has nice ergonomics, and I haven't had any issues with it yet. I wish that I could find a Saya for this knife- I made one for it out of cardstock paper. The main downside of this knife is that it has me wanting to buy more Japanese knives ;)Koki is great to deal with, and takes customer service seriously- even though there was an issue with DHL, which was a one off thing, Koki made sure that I got the product. I appreciate this, and his warm interaction. I would and have recommended this store to friends.
The delivery was prompt and well packed. This petty knife was simply a work of art and the finishing was superb. The length of the blade was good for small kitchen job, very appropiate. The sharpness of the blade was not compromised. Highly recommended.
After having bought lots of cheap knives I thought that maybe it is a good idea to invest in a better quality knife. The knife I bought exceeded my expectations, it's super sharp in my amateur opinion (I chose regular sharpness) and feels very nice in hand. Shipping was also extremely fast. I will definitely shop here again!
Beautiful knife nice weight and balance
A very straightforward example of a Chinese chef's knife, but hiding beneath the simplicity is a superb, well balanced, and very sharp tool. Suited to almost every task on the cutting board, but especially the fine slicing and dicing needed for wok cooking. Love this blade!
Came sharp as anything and has held up well to normal use so far. It feels great in the hand with most normal grip styles. Lots of control for precise, quick cuts.
Beautiful pattern on blade and cuts through things like knife through butter. What's not to like? Give it a try and see how this blade works for you!
Until now I would slice everything with 8 inch chef knives. Which is fine. But once I sliced a shallot with the Kagayaki Petty fine took on a new meaning. Great knife, makes prep oddly pleasing and while it's not the main workhorse in the kitchen, it is the most welcome new addition.
