From my first glance of this beautiful knife, I knew it should be called "Gekko”, or 月光, which means "Moonlight" in Japanese. From every angle, the Gekko knife reminded me of the way that the shape and light of the Moon changes each night.
Gekko knife has a unique & beautiful Tsuchime (“Hammered pattern”) textured Damascus blade. They feature a hand sharpened and hand honed VG-10 stainless steel blade core that is clad on both sides by a 15-layer Damascus stainless steel (HRc. 60-61. 50/50 symmetrically ground double beveled edge).
Gekko knife uses a full-tang construction, and has Mahogany wood handle with a stainless steel bolster and handle rivets.
A mainstay of professional Western kitchens, the Petty knife is a small general-purpose knife used for peeling, shaping, and slicing fruits and vegetables, chopping herbs, and making garnishes. The compact size and relatively narrow blade of the Petty knife mean that it is very nimble and controllable, thus it is ideal for making precise cuts.

For your information, Japanese Kitchen knives are generally designed for right hand use with a slightly thicker and rounded grinding on the right side blade and a less rounded (almost straight flat) grinding on the left side blade. However, both right and left hander can use the knives that have double bevel edge sharpened 50/50 without problems.
We believe quality and performance of Japanese knives are best in the world and hope you enjoy fine craftsmanship and spirits from your new knife. With proper cares, every Japanese knife can be your special cooking partner for long time.

The sharpened edge is not smooth. When cutting vegetable, it stick to the knife instead of falling off. Handle of the knife is not comfortable to hold when cutting. Not quite pleased with the knife.
The knife is unbelievable sharp and the blade itself is of great quality. However the bolster is not in one piece and is only welded on the blade. This leaves for some gaps which looks unpleasant. If you don’t care about looks, this knife might be perfect.
My kids love to cook, so we got each one a Gekko series petty for Christmas. They think the knives "look cool" and enjoy helping us chop fruit and veggies for meal prep. I think having such a nice knife is motivational for them. To be honest, I'm a little jealous. I also love the look and feel and find the knife very comfortable to use when prepping smaller ingredients.
It is my second Japanese knife (the first one is Chef Knife). I was long thinking if 140 mm is a right size of a blade, but I couldn't choose better! I received the knife untouched, blade was in protective sleeve. It is a pleasure and fun to use this knife, especially when it comes to finely cut pickled vegetables. I could finely cut even soft and slippery pickled mushrooms. I really had fun when I cut pickled cucumber to small perfect cubes! Altought the knife has a nice pattern, it is sharp and has a beautiful brown wood handle.
Bought as a gift for my brother. Not only did he loved it but so did the rest of the family. The blade is fantastic in appearance and when cutting, the handle equally as satisfying as it is very comfortable to hold. Couldn't be happier with it!
