From my first glance of this beautiful knife, I knew it should be called "Gekko”, or 月光, which means "Moonlight" in Japanese. From every angle, the Gekko knife reminded me of the way that the shape and light of the Moon changes each night.
Beautifully mirror polished VG-10 stainless steel blade core that is clad on both sides by a 33 layer Damascus stainless steel (HRc. 60-61. 50/50 symmetrically ground double beveled edge).

This knife comes with 50/50 double bevel edge geometry for both right and left handed use.
For your information, Japanese Kitchen knives are generally designed for right hand use with a slightly thicker and rounded grinding on the right side blade and a less rounded (almost straight flat) grinding on the left side blade. However, both right and left hander can use the knives that have double bevel edge sharpened 50/50 without problems.
We believe quality and performance of Japanese knives are best in the world and hope you enjoy fine craftsmanship and spirits from your new knife. With proper cares, every Japanese knife can be your special cooking partner for long time.
This is the Stainless steel blade kitchen knife, which has good rust resistance for easy maintenance. However even stainless steel blade kitchen knife has rust situation if you leave it with wet condition.
Like an extension of my hand. Intuitive. Perfect weight and balance point.
Solid knife! Totally recommend!
Great knife, looks great sharp out of box
I ordered this knife for my fiancé for Christmas because she had been wanting to get a nice set of knives, and decided instead to go with Japanese knives and build a set piece by piece. I had talked to Koki and he suggested this knife as a great first time high quality piece. I ordered it 5 days before Christmas and it came in time from Japan! The knife came with a beautiful blue sheath, and was in perfect condition. Its very sharp and beautiful crafted. My fiancé loves the knife, and is learning how to take care of Japanese blades now. Thank you so much Mr. Iwahara!
The shipping of this knife is incredible. I purchased this on a Friday morning, the order was processed and shipped within hours, through and to my door step by Monday on a holiday weekend. As for the knife, it’s flawless, very sharp, with beautifully impeccable fit and finish. It is everything I hoped for and an excellent first Japanese knife. I cannot recommend enough. As I am a first time user of a Gyuto, I cannot yet fully appreciate its design, but compared with western knives it is much thinner, much sharper , and quite nice to use.
