A mainstay of professional Western kitchens, the Petty knife is a small general-purpose knife used for peeling, shaping, and slicing fruits and vegetables, chopping herbs, and making garnishes. The compact size and relatively narrow blade of the Petty knife mean that it is very nimble and controllable, thus it is ideal for making precise cuts.
Notice about White and Marbled Water Buffalo Horn Ferrules for Mizuno Tanrenjo Knives
Unfortunately, Mizuno Tanrenjo and most other knife makers are now struggling to find the raw materials to make White or Marbled Water Buffalo Horn Ferrules for their knife handles.
Due to these difficult and unfortunate circumstances, we regret to inform our customers that Mizuno Tanrenjo is no longer able to accept requests for a specific color of Water Buffalo Horn Ferrule. However, we firmly believe in the high quality and craftsmanship of Mizuno Tanrenjo’s traditionally-forged Japanese knives - They are one of the most well-respected producers of traditionally-forged Japanese knives - and we highly recommend them!
Thank you very much for your understanding and attention.

Koki san is the reason that I trusted owners on online shop, thank for your helping and reminding me. About the Blue#2 petty, I have to say this handle is made well, the blade is fairly sharp, I mean it was not as sharp as I had thought. I won’t recommend the knife for who is not a knife lover, as blue#2 might not good with some ingredients like garlic or tomato, it will be burned a bit on the blade. It doesn’t need to be cared like high carbon knife, but it still get burned by something else
I’ve been using this knife for a month now. The steel is tempered very well. It gets extremely sharp and keeps its edge but hasn’t shown any hint of being chippy. Very nice profile and geometry. An all round great petty.
Excellent knife, if you are looking for a blue steel petty this will be perfect.
The Hontanren Series Wa Petty is an excellent knife. I ordered my knife with an octagonal magnolia wood handle and also with the Honba-Duke sharpening. It arrived quickly and was well packaged. The knife is supremely sharp, is very well balanced and it is an absolute joy to use. I find it excellent for those smaller tasks where precision cuts are required. This is my third Mizuno Tanrenjo Hontanren series knife (I also have the Nakiri and Santoku) and all three of them are superb.
It's very pleasant to use this knife, because it is light, with a good balance between the blade and the handle, and you can work with a great efficiency.
