Shirogami No.1 Honyaki Series

   Honyaki knives are most attractive for experienced users and professionals. Honyaki knives are also most difficult to make for forge-smiths and craftsmen.

   One-piece blade construction of Honayki knife making is similar and related with the Japanese sword making process, such as Tsuchi-Oki (putting mud on the blade before water quenching process for adjusting the hardness and blade strength. It also makes beautiful Hamon pattern)

   Because of the difficulty (during the quenching process or making process the Honyaki blade often cracks) and time-consuming process of producing Honyaki blades, there are only a few companies or craftsmen who can make real Honyaki knives with the traditional method in our generation.

   Once, when we heard the information about Sukenari from Master Nagao (President of Hiromoto Company), he explained to us that Sukenari produces one of best Honyaki knives ever. We understood his respect for Sukenarifs craftsmanship after visiting Sukenari and seeing their making process.

   Sukenari uses selected high quality Hitachi Shirogami No.1 for the Honyaki knives (HRC64).  We saw Shirogami No.1 Honyaki knives for the first time and imagined the extra difficulty for making Honyaki with this great Japanese Carbon Steel.

   Sukenari really knows what is important and what the best method is for making Honyaki, thanks to their rich experience and knowledge. Special mud ingredient for Tsuchi-Oki, proper and adequate temperature water-quenching process, professional and experienced hammer forging process, every making step is perfectly demonstrated and taught by Sukenarifs Master Forge-Smith to the next generation.

  Takefu Steel Company used to produce gSuper Xh Powdered High Speed Steel as their highest grade steel. 

  However due to its expensive price and the difficulty of the making process, there are not many forge-smiths or craftsmen who tried to make knives with this unique steel. Therefore Takefu Steel Company had to decide discontinuing the steel before.

  For a long time, Sukenari has been actively trying and researching the best method to make the Super X Steel Knives and they have achieved the amazing cutting performance and edge retention of fine Yanagiba knives.

 According to Master Hanaki, their customers, experienced professional Japanese chefs who own and have tried many kinds of Japanese traditional style knives, really like Sukenari Super X Yanagiba knivesf cutting performance and edge retention, and say that the Super X Yanagiba knife is the best tool for them.

 Super X Cutting edge core welded forged with soft stainless steel (HRC65). Due to the high Carbon content, the cutting edge core may get rusty or discolored, but makes for outstanding sharpness and edge retention.
 Perfectly mirror polished Super X Yanagiba knives come with Octagonal Ebony wooden Handle and Magnolia Wooden Saya. Very Rare and Special Steel Yanagiba knives are now available with limited quantity.

 Aogami Super is one of the most popular and great Japanese Carbon Steels with very rich chemical composition.

 We looked for Japanese traditional style knives made of Aogami Super with no success before. We also heard about the difficulty of making Aogami Super Single Bevel Edge knives from Master Nagao (at Hiromoto Company) before.

 In our opinion, Sukenari can successfully produce special steel knives because they are accustomed to researching and trying to make interesting new steel knives. We respect their effort and the tremendously time-consuming process of producing new steel knives.
