From my first glance of this beautiful knife, I knew it should be called "Gekko”, or 月光, which means "Moonlight" in Japanese. From every angle, the Gekko knife reminded me of the way that the shape and light of the Moon changes each night.
Gekko knife has a unique & beautiful Tsuchime (“Hammered pattern”) textured Damascus blade. They feature a hand sharpened and hand honed VG-10 stainless steel blade core that is clad on both sides by a 15-layer Damascus stainless steel (HRc. 60-61. 50/50 symmetrically ground double beveled edge).

This knife comes with 50/50 double bevel edge geometry for both right and left handed use.
For your information, Japanese Kitchen knives are generally designed for right hand use with a slightly thicker and rounded grinding on the right side blade and a less rounded (almost straight flat) grinding on the left side blade. However, both right and left hander can use the knives that have double bevel edge sharpened 50/50 without problems.
We believe quality and performance of Japanese knives are best in the world and hope you enjoy fine craftsmanship and spirits from your new knife. With proper cares, every Japanese knife can be your special cooking partner for long time.
This is the Stainless steel blade kitchen knife, which has good rust resistance for easy maintenance. However even stainless steel blade kitchen knife has rust situation if you leave it with wet condition.
Good cutting performance and easy sharpening retention, generally VG-10 knifes are good for everyday and all kinds of preparation and leave your yanagi just for filleting
This is my first Japanese knife, but it will not be my last. My experience with this knife has made prepping for my meals easier. I've done much research on what to purchase when it comes to a good durable knife and this was it. Very happy with my purchase. Currently have 8 other knives on my wishlist which I will knock out month by month! Also, before I submit my review I just wanted to touch on the shipping time. Extremely fast considering where it came from!
Looked beautiful and came very soon after ordering.
The 240mm Gekko was delivered to the UK with no problems. It was sharp out of the box, however, a few strokes on my leather strop and the edge was razor sharp retaining it sharpness after continued use. Overall good value for money.
Amazing knife for a starter. Bought it as a present for my father after having a good experience with a similar product. Would definitely recommend!
